Karen’s first career was in research organic chemistry and the extension to wine chemistry and winemaking developed after the Coulstons’ purchase of the Yarrambat property with its hobby vineyard. Karen graduated from Charles Sturt University with a degree in wine science in 1995.
She has spent three vintages in prestigious overseas wineries, one in France, two in California, gaining invaluable experience to complement her knowledge of Australian wines and winemaking. Hills of Plenty was established commercially in 1998.
