Coulston Consulting Pty Ltd offers a wine pressing service to small winemakers who do not have the equipment necessary for gentle, efficient pressing of whole bunches, crushed grapes or must.
The trailer mounted press is an 800L VELO (Italian made) membrane or airbag press. It is all stainless steel and can be programmed for various press cycles or operated manually. It can take about 500kg whole bunches, 1.5 tonne crushed destemmed white grapes or 2 tonne red must per batch. The receiving tank/well has 500L capacity and is linked to a small Mono pump for liquid transfer to the winery tank /barrels.
The press can be loaded axially by compatible must pump or manually through the door. The service is offered only with Karen Coulston, a qualified winemaker, as operator and within a 2 hour drive of Melbourne. |

As a development from the press service Karen Coulston also offers full winemaking services to small wineries that need her expertise as well as equipment, at the client's location. Usually the client will provide basic facilities and labour and work under Karen's instruction in winery activities. Karen can perform most wine analyses either on site or at her home laboratory. |

When advice, rather than hands on winemaking is required Karen Coulston can offer her expertise in practical winemaking knowledge of procedures and problem solving, wine chemistry instruction and interpretation and wine chemical analyses. Charges are on an hourly basis. |

| |
Karen Coulston is teaching winemaking and wine chemistry related subjects within the TAFE system. She can also offer talks and structured wine tastings and discussions at Hills of Plenty or other venues. |
